The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) will implement this tool to avoid the contact
between the employer and the notifier. The e-filing mailbox will facilitate the return to the
“new normal” after the COVID-19 epidemic.
The Director of Incorporation and Collection, Norma Gabriela López Castañeda,
announced that the e-filing mailbox will have multiple benefits; it will serve as an Institute-
employer communication channel; both for sending information for diffusion purposes and
for document submission.
Queries may be submitted through the IMSS e-filing mailbox 24 hours a day, the Institute’s
operating costs will be reduced simplifying its administrative burden and 100% of the
requests may be notified. In addition, face-to-face contact will be reduced, preventing the
spread of COVID-19.
How can we enable our e-filing mailbox?
First, individuals must register at least one email and one cell phone number. Through
these means, the IMSS will notify notices to validate and register the means of contact.
Secondly, the declaration of conformity through which the Institute is authorized to carry
out the transmission and notification of digital documents will have to be filled out.
Another of the advantages announced by the director López Castañeda, is the reception of
the anticipated monthly emission through the e-filing mailbox.
All notifications through this mechanism will be on business days from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00
p.m., and the individual will have 3 business days to open the digital documents to be
notified. In the event that the individual does not open its e-filing mailbox, the electronic
notification will be made on the 4 business day.
The Technical Council of the Institute decreed on March 31, 2020 the suspension of all
actions and proceedings in order to avoid acts of nuisance to Companies and the
displacement of the Institute’s personnel in this emergency stage.
As of July, the deadlines and terms could resume, depending on the traffic lights that the
Ministry of Health discloses. The Institute’s policy will seek, through the existing schemes,
to regularize debts and support Companies that have chosen not to dismiss its workers.
